SereneQ Cagrilintide

Cagrilintide is a long-acting acylated amylin analogue developed by Novo Nordisk. Amylin is a 37-amino acid peptide co-secreted with insulin from pancreatic beta cells. It slows gastric emptying, suppresses glucagon secretion and acts centrally to reduce appetite through amylin receptors in the area postrema. The natural amylin molecule has poor pharmacokinetic properties for therapeutic use; cagrilintide is engineered to have a half-life suitable for once-weekly injection.

What the research covers

The most significant research programme is CagriSema — the combination of cagrilintide with semaglutide (a GLP-1 receptor agonist) being developed as a dual amylin/GLP-1 approach. Phase 2 data published in The Lancet showed approximately 15% weight loss with CagriSema at 16 weeks, exceeding semaglutide alone. Phase 3 REDEFINE trials are ongoing. The rationale for combination is mechanistic diversity: GLP-1 agonists and amylin analogues act through different receptors and complementary pathways, so their combination produces additive rather than merely overlapping effects on appetite and body weight.

This is where SereneQ does things differently. Instead of lyophilised vials that need reconstituting and drawing up separately, the compound arrives pre-loaded in solution in a graduated injection pen with a dial and a dose window.
