Description
Quanta Pharma Melanotan II 10mg Nasal Spray
Melanotan II is a synthetic, ring-shaped analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), the hormone that tells skin cells to produce melanin. This Quanta Pharma version is supplied as a pre-mixed nasal spray for research where injection is not wanted.
What the research covers
Melanotan II activates several melanocortin receptors rather than just one. Its effect on the MC1 receptor drives melanin production and skin darkening, which is the main research interest. Its effect on the MC4 receptor explains why it is also studied for sexual arousal and appetite. Bremelanotide, a licensed treatment in the US, was developed from it.
Where the evidence sits
Melanotan II was first studied at the University of Arizona in the 1990s but has never been licensed as a medicine. Commonly reported effects in the literature include nausea and facial flushing, and there are case reports of existing moles darkening or changing. The UK medicines regulator has warned against unlicensed tanning products. Supplied strictly as a laboratory research chemical.
The spray format
- 10mg Melanotan II per bottle
- Pre-mixed: no reconstitution, no syringes
- Delivered through the nasal lining, so the amount absorbed is variable and lower than by injection
- Best absorption: head upright, spray toward the outer wall of the nostril, breathe gently rather than sniffing hard
- Pigmented lesions and moles can darken whichever route is used
Handling and storage
- Store refrigerated at 2–8°C. Do not freeze.
- Keep away from direct light.
- Keep the cap on between uses.
- Keep out of reach of children and animals.
