SereneQ 5-Amino-1MQ

5-Amino-1MQ (5-amino-1-methylquinolinium) is a small molecule inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT) — an enzyme expressed primarily in adipose tissue and liver that methylates nicotinamide, consuming SAM (S-adenosylmethionine) in the process. By inhibiting NNMT, 5-Amino-1MQ preserves the methyl donor pool and raises intracellular NAD+ levels in fat cells, which in turn activates SIRT1 and other NAD+-dependent pathways. The mechanism is different from direct NAD+ precursors — it works upstream by reducing consumption rather than increasing supply.

What the research covers

Animal studies have shown that NNMT inhibition with 5-Amino-1MQ produces reductions in fat mass, particularly white adipose tissue, with some evidence of a shift toward brown adipocyte characteristics — increased mitochondrial content and uncoupling protein expression. Studies have also examined its effects on lipogenesis, lipolysis and adipocyte differentiation. The NAD+/SIRT1 mechanism connects it to the broader longevity pathway literature. It has attracted research interest as an alternative approach to metabolic intervention that does not require receptor agonism or secretagogue activity.

Handling and storage
